After a remarkable six month journey, The Nest is thrilled to celebrate its half-year milestone of transformative services.
To mark this significant occasion, The Nest is proud to announce a special 24-hour online fundraiser aimed at raising £1500 to provide a place for one young person (unable to access the usual funding routes) to attend The Nest. The funding will provide an additional 12-week space to the charity’s already full provision .
The Nest takes young people from the age of 11 who are unable to access full-time education due to their mental health. They come to The Nest, just outside Framlingham, one day a week and spend the day looking after animals, learning to grow vegetables, and taking part in a range of land-based activities as well as completing a 12-week psychoeducational course designed by one of East Anglia’s leading clinical psychologists, Dr Beth Mosley MBE.
"The past six months have been a testament to the dedication of our small but brilliant team of staff and volunteers, and the resilience of the young individuals we help," said Hannah Tuckwell, Founder of The Nest Farms. "We have witnessed incredible transformations and have seen first-hand the power of time, space, and sense of purpose and belonging, as well as the peer-to-peer to support they offer each other. My commitment to providing a safe, nurturing and educational haven in the countryside for these young people remains unwavering."
To commemorate this remarkable journey, The Nest is organising a 24-hour online flash fundraiser on Wednesday 18th October 2023. The event aims to raise funds to sponsor a young person's complete 12-week term at The Nest, a program proven in helping individuals navigate the complexities of mental health challenges.
Hannah Tuckwell goes on to say, "Not every young person who is referred to The Nest comes with access to funding, there are many people that fall through the cracks of the country’s already hugely overstretched mental health infrastructure. It is our aim to help as many young people as we can. Being able to fund an additional place on our 12 week program, will hopefully change another life, and we are dedicated to making this opportunity accessible to those who need it the most."
One young participant, Alice, explains how The Nest has helped her, “The Nest changed my life! Meeting Hannah and everyone at The Nest was truly the most healing experience and I could not be more grateful to Hannah for not giving up on me. The Nest made me ‘me’ again and gave me the courage and motivation to get my life back. There is no doubt in my mind that it saved my life. No therapist, specialist, GP or teacher helped me as much as Hannah and her team and I haven’t looked back since joining The Nest.”
Young people from schools around the county are already benefiting from all that The Nest offers. Deputy Head of Debenham High School, Louise Ramsay, says, "The focus of Hannah and the team on equipping the young people with a “tool box” to manage life be that school or employment for older young people –is excellent. There is very little else available that is at a lower level of support for young people who have mental health issues; the higher tiered work is as we know overwhelmed so as a High School we welcome a local, well resourced and robust approach.”
