Brighter Days Are Coming!
January has certainly been a wet and windy month! But that hasn’t stopped our incredible young people from showing up and working hard on the farm. Rain or shine, they’ve been out in their jackets and boots, ensuring all our animals are well cared for each week.
This week, we caught a glimpse of spring as we stepped outside after our end-of-day debrief and saw the sun still shining. Brighter days are on their way! That said, winter is a season for slowing down, and that’s okay—what matters is showing up, just like our young people continue to do.
Countdown to the London Landmarks Half Marathon
In just eight weeks, ten amazing runners will take on the London Landmarks Half Marathon in support of The Nest. This week, we had the joy of welcoming some of them to the farm, where they met our animals and saw firsthand the impact of their fundraising efforts. We hope their visit filled them with excitement, knowing they’re making a real difference to a local charity. We can’t wait to join their friends and families on race day to cheer them on—it’s going to be fantastic!
Workshops & New Skills
During these winter months, we’ve loved hosting workshops that bring people together and help us learn new skills. This week, we were delighted to welcome Henrietta, who guided us through the art of calligraphy. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the session, and we now have a fun new skill to use for creative projects. Henrietta also left us with a stunning new welcome sign, which we had the pleasure of watching her create on the day!
Exciting Barn Improvements
Our barn has also been getting some much-needed love and attention! The lovely Anna has been hard at work over the past few weeks, clearing away cobwebs and giving the space a fresh new feel.
Meanwhile, our dedicated volunteers from Cadent Gas have returned to help prepare our new barn room, where Amy will deliver our psychoeducational programme. We wanted to create a separate, cosy space that feels safe and welcoming—somewhere our young people can open up, support each other, and have those vital conversations alongside our incredible volunteers.
And, of course, we can’t forget Alex! Week after week, he’s been working tirelessly to create something new for The Nest—whether it’s our beautiful new decking area or feeding troughs for the animals, no task is too big for him.
As we head into the next few weeks, we look forward to more moments of learning, growth, and community—rain or shine.
